Welcome to HEAT

Hadleigh Environmental Action Team was set up in 2019, and today we have over 400 supporters and more than 70 paid up members.

HEAT is working to help people and organisations in Hadleigh (Suffolk) to always take climate change, and the resilience of the natural world, into account when they make decisions. Over the years we have run a range of projects in and around Hadleigh. Currently these include:

  • The HEAT Home Energy Project which provides free, independent advice to anyone in Hadleigh and the surrounding villages about how to reduce save money and carbon emissions by better insulation and simple ways to use less energy. Since the proejct began we have given advice to more than 300 householders.

  • Every Wednesday morning, HEAT volunteers work with local farmers, Benton End charity or Babergh District Council. Since we began just after lock down the volunteers have donated more than 4,000 hours to improving the natural environment around Hadleigh

  • HEAT Food Group runs the Growing 4 Life project, a tree nursery and regular shared meals where we come together to celebrate beautifully cooked meals and reflect about the importance of food in all our lives.

  • Deep HEAT - this is our discussion group where members can delve deep into a subject like energy, food supply chains, or how to survive a 7-day power cut.

Our next big project is the River Brett Festival which will celebrate our beautiful river with the aim of building a strong and resilient community in these difficult times.

HEAT is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) which means that we can apply for larger amounts of funding from places like The Lottery. All money raised is used to further the aims of HEAT. Legal responsibility for HEAT is held by the Directors whilst day-to-day decisions are made by the 70 or so members.
