River Brett Festival June-July 2027
We are fortunate to have the lovely River Brett flowing through our town so one of HEAT’s biggest projects right now is the River Brett Festival that we are planning for Summer 2027. The Festival aims to celebrate the river and its wildlife and help connect families, schools, and neighbours, bringing the Hadleigh community together ready to face the future as the world becomes more uncertain and divided.
The Brett River Festival will take place during June/July 2027. We hope it will reflect what the whole community wants, especially people who live on our new housing developments, families with young children, and young people. We plan to have plenty of fun for all ages and tastes.
Where we’ve got to so far……(August 26)
We have had over 50 requests from voluntary groups in the town to run events including music, dance, theatre, puppet making, nature walks, history talks and science projects. In addition, art and photography, exhibitions, story-telling and a poetry competition have been suggested as well as a parade along the High Street with bunting and shop displays. Local businesses and schools have indicated that they wish to be involved.
Each community group will run their own event with HEAT acting in a coordinating role. A River Brett Festival Steering Group has been set up bringing in people from different community groups. The Group’s aim is to raise funds and make sure the whole thing runs smoothly.
We have already hit our main funding raising target! This means that we are now employing a Community Co-ordinator for one day a week to find out what local people want from the festival and to get schools and businesses involved. (If you’d like to chat with Hannah do get in touch via mailto:info@brettfestival.co.uk)
And we’re been making bunting! Enough to go along both sides of the High Street for the festival. The bunting group meets at the Leisure Centre to make the bunting that will decorate the High Street with over 5000 flags of ducks and fishes. Do get in touch if you’d like to help.
And amongst all the other things going we are revamping this website ( we know it is a bit naff!).
